Lawyer Maxim Gulevich: “Our position didn’t change, but Europeans didn’t provide new arguments as well. We continue protecting the interests of our sportsmen”

1 July 2022
Russian suspension from continental competitions remained in force, objections were declined.

Handballfast asked the lawyer of the Russian Handball Federation to comment today’s decision and point further steps.

 - We disagree with the decision. Next week we will file a complaint against it, we have 7 days for it. We will continue to defend interests and rights of sportsmen, delegates, members of commissions -  in a word, of all interested parties.

We remain of the view, that all previous decisions of European authorities with regard to our issues are unfounded and politically motivated. We didn’t change our position but I hear no new arguments from the part of European Handball Federation.

Again they refer to necessity to provide security supposedly. While we guarantee holding the games on neutral territory and all safety measures and whatever else.

Does our complaint to the Court of Appeal of EHF have any prospect? To be honest, I see it being referred to the next instance - ECA (the European Court of Arbitration, that is the arbitral tribunal of the EHF), where cases are heard by independent arbitrators.

I hope we’ll be able to achieve a result there. There is one our complaint of a denial of interim measures in the European Court of Arbitration. The appointment of arbitrators is in process at the moment.

So, our way forward is a recourse to the Court of Appeal of the EHF. I don’t think we’ll succeed right here, - said Maxim Gulevich.
