The Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Handball Federation of Russia Sergey Shishkarev and the sports minister, the head of the Russian Olympic Committee Mikhail Degtyarev discussed the return of the Russian sport to the international arena.
— I had a very useful and effective conversation in a plane, so to say, shoulder-to-shoulder with the sports minister and the president of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Mikhail Degtyarev.
We discussed the return of Russian athletes to the international arena. We talked about the upcoming International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Executive Board meeting, which will be held during the winter Games in Milan. I can’t disclose all the details of preparation for the forthcoming vote, but the information from Mikhail Vladimirovich looks quite optimistic. I’m very happy that it’s the first time I see such a consistent, clear, thoughtful and, on some issues, even tough strategy to protect and promote our interests. This is preciously the consolidated and offensive position that we need now.
For my part, I told him about the upcoming congress of the International Handball Federation (IHF), where I intend to put the issue of the return of the national teams of Russia and Belarus to the vote by the entire handball community. We will do it together with our Belarusian friends, of course.
As the saying goes, it’s high time to reveal true face in the international arena. Many European heads of federations communicate in a friendly way unofficially, while representatives of Latin America, Asia consistently and openly support us, as eloquently evidenced by the successful tournament in Minsk», — Sergey Shishkarev wrote in his telegram channel.
