The High Council of the Handball Federation of Russia approved the appointment of the head coach of the junior national team.

Yury Orlov will lead the team of players born in 2008/09. Born in Astrakhan, he played for local Dinamo, then moved to Saint-Petersburg and finished his playing career in Permskie Medvedi. At club level he is a two-time silver (2007, 2008) and bronze (2014, 2015) medalist of the Russian championship, the winner of the Cup of Russia (2014).

From 2019 to 2024, he worked as a head coach of HC Permskie Medvedi-Academia, which he led to the gold medals of the youth championship in the seasons-2021/22 and 2023/24 and to the bronze medals in the season-2022/23. Yury Orlov was appointed head coach of HC SGAU-Saratov in the summer of 2024.

 — I am thankful to the Handball Federation of Russia for the trust, I’ll try to justify the confidence to the full extent. I already have the experience of working in the system of national teams. I assisted Sergey Klenov in the youth team composed of handball players born in 2006-07. I hope I’ll be able to see many players during the training session in November, evaluate what they are capable of. The first training session will be focused on defense, attack and passing practice, — the official HFR website quotes Yury Orlov’s words.
