The coaching staff of the men’s national team of Russia headed by Velimir Petkovic called 18 players to the nearest training session.
The Russian national team will be training on Yug Sport base in Sochi from 24 July to 2 August, according to the official website of the HFR. Eight of eighteen players were called to the national team for the first time. They are: goalkeepersNikita Mikhaylov and Aleksandr Popov, line players Vadim Ibrakov, Andrey Tyurin and Alexey Chirkov, left back players Dmitriy Kandybin and Leonid Kutepov and playmaker Saveliy Shalabanov.

goalkeepers — Vladislav Martynenko (SGAU-Saratov), Nikita Mikhaylov (Kaustik), Aleksandr Popov (Permskie medvedi);
left wingers — Nikita Iltinsky (Victor), Egor Kochura (CSKA);
pivots — Vadim Ibrakov (Kaustik), Andrey Tyurin (Permskie medvedi), Alexey Chirkov (Zenit);
right wingers — Ilya Demin (Chrekhovskie medvedi), Nikita Larin (Kaustik);
left back — Aleksandr Grebenkin (CSKA), Dmitriy Kandybin (Chekhovskie medvedi), Leonid Kutepov (Dinamo-Sungul);

The main task for the coaching staff for this training session is to test new players, as well as those, who hadn’t been called to the national team so often. Mainly young handball players will go to Sochi, since there is no need to monitor leaders and experienced athletes. We still don’t know, when we will be able to return on international arena. Now young players have a good opportunity to express themselves and qualify for getting into the main squad of the national team. We are going to hold two two-sided games. We will analyze information and get prepared for the training session in autumn, when matches with Belarus are scheduled, — Velimir Pertkovic said.
