The Chairman of the HFR High Council Sergey Shishkarev commented on the decision of the International Handball Federation to allow youth and junior national teams of Russia and Belarus to return to participation in handball international competitions gradually.
The official website of the HFR quoted the words of the head of national handball.
— As I have pointed out many times, the HFR made considerable efforts to return our athletes to the international arena. At this stage the IHF permitted handball federations of Russia and Belarus to organize and hold friendly matches and tournaments involving youth and junior national teams. It's important to emphasize that the teams from other countries can participate in it on official basis, there are no contradictions to it.
We welcome these intentions and hope that the IHF Council will move forward in this issue at the next meeting in May since the national teams of Russia and Belarus deserve to get back to competition as soon as possible at every letter.
By the way, I intend to visit the IHF headquarters in Bazel, Switzerland in the first decade of May, where I will convince the leaders of the world and European handball to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international tournaments as soon as possible without any restrictions, — Shishkarev said.
