35-year-old left wing Polina Gorshkova talked about the decision to end her playing career in social networks.
— It’s difficult to describe 25 years of sporting career, but it was bright, strong and unforgettable! I thank sports school of Togliatti where they noticed my talent and opened the way to the big sport. It was HC Lada, where my will to victory was forged.
Many thanks to CSKA family for all 5 years. Thanks to people with whom we have been from the very beginning, passed the formation of the club and managed to win trophies after that. It was a beautiful way where my Olympic dream also came true!
I’m very grateful to Sergey Nikolaevich Shishkarev! Handball is developing steadily under his guidance. He put an incredible amount of efforts in promotion of this sport! Due to the work of the Federation, the matches of the clubs and the national team came out on the wide screen and handball became one of the most popular sports. It allows to cover more and more new cities and the number of young athletes is constantly increasing.
I can’t slide over Rapid Bucuresti, it’s an unforgettable experience. It’s a team of professionals, where I met a large number of great people! Europe, where I was completely free. But I also got an opportunity to make sure sincerely that I’m a patriot of my homeland. Now I’m home, in Russia. And I finished my sporting career as a player…

The left wing played for Lada, CSKA and Romanian Rapid Bucuresti. Gorshkova won the championships of Russia in 2008, 2021, 2023 and 2024. She became a silver medalist of the Olympic Games in Tokyo with the national team of Russia.The left wing won the EHF Cup twice with HC Lada.
