The right back Anna Vyakhireva openly talked about her emotions after the transfer from Norwegian Vipers Kristiansand to French Brest Bretagne.
Vyakhireva’s transfer became the most expensive in the history of handball. According to Scandinavian mass media, Brest Bretagne payed the Norwegian club 170 000 euro for buyout of the Russian player’s contract.
— I was given the responsibility either to leave or to put the club in a terrible financial situation. I cried for several days. Moving from Kristiansand to Brest is the saddest part. My girls, my friends… I just feel sad, — Vyakhireva said.
Assuming that the financial situation of the club is under control, Vyakhireva took a vacation and went abroad. Then the news came that Kristiansand had to sell her to avoid bankruptcy.
— At first I couldn’t believe it. I thought that everything could still have been different, but when I realized that everything was serious, I was shocked, — the right back said.
The Chairman of the Executive Board of Vipers Kristiansand Peter Gitmark announced that they wanted to keep the star player. According to his words, selling was the last resort.
— She is an awesome player and she makes any team, she plays for, better. This autumn in our financial situation without selling we’d have run out of money. On the day when the board made a decision, I contacted Anna’s agent personally and informed that the board sees no other way than the sale, — he said.
The choice of a new club was Vyakhireva’s. She chose Brest Bretagne, which will face Vipers Kristiansand this autumn in one group of the Champions League.
— When Peter received an offer from Brest, he told my agent that he would wait to see the amount of transfers from other clubs, from which I had offers, since he wasn’t satisfied. I felt I was a souvenir, — Vyakhireva added.
— No. Anna’s agent announced three potential clubs. We thought everything was fine. But when it was time to contact the teams, it turned out that Anna decided that she was interested only in one of the clubs, — Gitmark denies the player’s words.
— I’m well aware that Anna is disappointed, when she wanted to stay, when she achieved sports success here and made good friends. And we would like to keep Anna as well, — he added.
